Sidmouth Sea Fest was created as part of the campaign to save and restore the Drill Hall at Port Royal, Sidmouth www.sidmouthdrillhall.com and bring it into community ownership. By creating an annual event on the Ham at Port Royal the core aim of Sea Fest was to gather people around the Drill Hall to enjoy and participate in a festival of arts, music, theatre and creativity with food from local and other producers and suppliers. This might create an insight into what could happen week in week out within a restored Drill Hall and build the campaign around the building with an increasing number of local and wider partners.
Sidmouth Sea Fest was founded as part of the EU funded ‘TourFish’ project that connected coastal towns in Arnemuiden, Holland, Brittany, Flanders, Hastings and Sidmouth. The event was written into the project as one of the key outcomes for Sidmouth. Core funding for Sea Fest was provided by TourFish funding.
